At Spectrum Plants on Australia’s Gold Coast, a unique bond has formed that defies the boundaries of species. Treasure, a gentle Boxer who was once a stray, has found a new purpose as a mother to eight orphaned piglets.
The piglets arrived at the Trevor family’s nursery in dire condition after losing their biological mother during childbirth. Starving and sunburnt, the fragile babies needed immediate care. The family quickly provided specialized feed to support the tiny orphans in their fight for survival.

To their surprise, Treasure instinctively took on the role of caregiver. Despite not having had any litters of her own, her maternal instincts kicked in. She was soon seen nurturing the piglets, who instinctively began to root and suckle against her. Remarkably, Treasure’s body responded by producing milk, a phenomenon that astonished the Trevor family.
After consulting a veterinarian to ensure this unusual arrangement was safe, the family learned that as long as the piglets didn’t hurt Treasure, their bond was perfectly healthy. Treasure embraced her new responsibilities wholeheartedly, vigilantly watching over her curly-tailed babies and gently guiding them back whenever they attempted to wander off.
The presence of Treasure and her blended family has transformed the nursery from a struggling business into a thriving attraction. Customers now visit not only to see the plants but also to interact with the animals, including Treasure and her piglets. This joyful atmosphere has turned the nursery into a beloved petting zoo-style experience.
The eight piglets will continue to thrive in their new environment, enjoying the expansive grounds of the 7-hectare property. Treasure’s journey from a lonely stray to a nurturing mother highlights the profound capacity for love that transcends species.
