In an unexpected turn of events, a family who recently moved into a fixer-upper in Southern California discovered two tiny dogs living in their new property, captured by security cameras. The family had set up basic monitoring to keep an eye on the vacant house, receiving alerts for motion but seeing nothing during the day. However, at 3 a.m., the cameras revealed a heartbreaking sight: two small pups curled up together, using crumbled wall insulation as their bed to survive the cold nights.
Discovery of the Dogs
Upon daylight, the family rushed back to the house, anxious to find the animals they had seen on video. Inside, they found a chaotic scene with construction debris scattered about. In the middle of the mess, the two pups were peacefully napping, unaware of the family’s presence. But once they realized they were not alone, panic set in, and they dashed into the piles of debris.

Emergency Assistance
Concerned for the dogs’ safety in such a hazardous environment, the family reached out to Logan’s Legacy 29 for help. Rescuer Suzette Hall felt a heavy ache in her chest as she arrived, knowing the pups had been struggling to survive. Evidence of their desperation was clear, with chewed boxes scattered around, indicating they were searching for food.
Rescue Efforts
As Hall attempted to secure the frightened animals, one puppy buried herself deeper into the walls, while the other squeezed beneath a heavy air conditioning unit. Determined to save the shivering dog, Hall exerted her strength to shift the massive machine enough to create an escape route. Finally, she managed to slip a leash over the tiny dog’s head, pulling him into her warm embrace.
Reuniting the Siblings
With one pup safe, Hall set a humane trap baited with food to lure out the other. The following morning brought relief when she found the second dog unharmed in the trap. Both dogs were taken to the veterinary clinic for assessment, where the vet team carefully removed shards of insulation from their coats, provided nourishing meals, and administered fluids to rehydrate them.
Joyful Reunion
When the two siblings were reunited in the clinic lobby, their joy was palpable. Their tiny tails wagged furiously as they showered each other with kisses, celebrating their reunion after a long night apart. Now named Candi and Cashew, the pups are thriving in their foster care, and Hall is hopeful for their adoption into a loving home that will provide a safe and nurturing environment.
Reflecting on their past, Hall knows they will never again have to endure the hardships of scavenging for food or shelter in an empty, cold house. These two little angels have finally found safety and comfort.
