A video capturing Chiquita’s desperate situation quickly circulated online, evoking a powerful response from a group of local animal welfare activists. Among them were Celeste Lorena Bensa Baylon, Jose Alberto, Wendy Ysabel Torres Juarez, and Angie Garcia Chavez, who immediately mobilized to rescue the dog.

As they navigated the perilous streets, the activists were shocked by the cruelty that had left Chiquita in such a vulnerable state. She was diagnosed with canine typhus, a painful skin condition, extreme anemia, and an ear infection. Additionally, tests were conducted to investigate a concerning mass related to her paralysis.
Despite her suffering, Chiquita displayed a remarkably gentle spirit. She offered soft kisses and craved affection from the clinic staff, showcasing a resilience that stood in stark contrast to her harsh experiences. As the days passed, her caregivers worked tirelessly to provide the medical care she desperately needed.
