In a bustling commercial parking lot, a small, wire-haired puppy found herself trapped in a dark corner, shaking with fear. As she darted across the asphalt, instinct drove her into the narrowest crevice she could find, desperately trying to escape the world around her.
Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, had recently rescued another puppy named Dottie from the same area. When she received a call about a second frightened dog hiding behind a dumpster, she felt a wave of dread. Hall quickly returned to the shopping center, spotting the terrified brown-and-white pup navigating the hazardous pavement.
Despite attempts by a concerned caller to coax the puppy out with food and water, she remained elusive, retreating into the shadows whenever someone approached. With nightfall approaching, Hall had to retreat, planning a careful rescue for the next morning.

Strategic Rescue Efforts
The following day, Hall returned with fellow rescuer Mary Nakiso. They quickly discovered that the puppy had fled to a nearby residential yard. Understanding the urgency, the rescuers used large cardboard pieces to block potential escape routes.
In a sudden frenzy, the scared puppy darted through bushes and squeezed herself into a narrow crevice between two brick walls. This space was tight, leaving her stuck and struggling to breathe. However, she was now close enough to be saved, and both Hall and Nakiso were determined not to leave without her.
With great care, they maneuvered a slip lead through the gap, gently placing it around her neck. Nakiso then removed her jacket, draping it over the trembling dog to create a comforting barrier. After a careful scoop, they finally held the fragile puppy, who was still shaking but now safe in their arms.
A Heartfelt Reunion and New Beginnings
On the way to the veterinary clinic, Hall named the puppy Tweety. She speculated that Tweety and Dottie might be sisters, abandoned together in the same lot. Fortunately, medical examinations showed both puppies were in good health despite their traumatic experiences.
They were placed in a nurturing foster home provided by Alix Levy Smith from Second Leash On Life, where they could recover physically and emotionally. Tweety is gradually learning to navigate a world that is now filled with kindness and care.
Rather than hiding in cold, dusty spaces, she now enjoys the warmth of soft blankets and the gentle touch of her rescuers. The transformation of this once terrified puppy into one who is beginning to trust humans exemplifies the dedication of those who commit themselves to animal rescue.
As Hall reflects on Tweety’s journey, she finds peace in knowing that the puppy is finally experiencing love and security after being discarded. The support from her rescuers will continue as Tweety learns to embrace her new life.
