In a striking moment of animal rescue, the founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, Suzette Hall, was alerted by a photo of a hairless dog abandoned on a busy street in Los Angeles County. The small creature, known as Pitzen, looked lost and frightened, pacing the pavement as he searched for his family.
Pitzen’s Distressing Discovery
Hall arrived at the scene to find Pitzen shivering and skittish, visibly distressed by the chaos of the surrounding environment. His behavior suggested he was desperately looking for the people who had left him behind. “The poor baby was all alone, hungry, scared and so incredibly skittish,” Hall recalled, recognizing the unique challenges in gaining the trust of such a frightened animal.

A Neighbor’s Painful Revelation
As Hall observed Pitzen, a local resident approached her with heartbreaking details about his abandonment. They revealed that a red Lexus had pulled up and unceremoniously dumped Pitzen and another dog. The other dog was likely taken by animal control shortly after, leaving Pitzen alone to navigate the streets without his companion.
The Challenge of Trust
Understanding that Pitzen was in a heightened state of anxiety, Hall knew it would take time and patience to earn his trust. Despite her efforts, he remained evasive and fearful, retreating to a hiding spot where he felt safe. Hall remained vigilant, determined not to leave until she could ensure his safety.
Rescue Through Compassion and Patience
After an initial humane trap did not succeed, Hall shifted tactics. She purchased hot, aromatic snacks to entice Pitzen out of his hiding spot. When she returned to the trap, she found Pitzen had finally stepped inside, allowing her to bring him to safety.
A New Beginning for Pitzen
Pitzen was taken to a veterinary clinic where he underwent a thorough examination. Fortunately, his health was stable, despite the trauma of his recent experiences. The veterinary staff quickly took a liking to him, noting his sweet nature and gentle demeanor.
Bittersweet News About Pitzen’s Sister
While Pitzen began to heal, Hall kept her promise to find his sister. After searching local shelters, she discovered his sibling was safe but had a waitlist of potential adopters, making it impossible for Hall to reunite them. This news weighed heavily on her, as she had hoped for a joyful reunion for the two dogs.
Despite the separation, Pitzen is now on the path to recovery, receiving love and care that he deserves. Hall reflects on the bittersweet reality of rescue, acknowledging that while their paths diverged, both dogs have a chance at finding loving forever homes.
“He’s such a special boy,” Hall said, optimistic about Pitzen’s bright future ahead.
