The dedicated team at Mutty Paws Rescue quickly transported her to an emergency veterinary intensive care unit, where initial examinations led the medical team to believe she was a senior dog nearing the end of her life. However, further assessments revealed the heartbreaking truth: Khaleesi was likely no more than a year old, her youth stolen by extreme neglect and starvation.
Intensive Care and Slow Progress
Khaleesi spent over a week in the intensive care unit, where she fought for her life. Her recovery process was painstakingly slow, with minor daily improvements, but eventually, she was discharged into a foster home. There, a compassionate family adjusted their schedules to provide her with constant care and support as she continued her veterinary treatments.

Justice for Khaleesi
While Khaleesi was on her road to recovery, local law enforcement was working diligently to hold her former owners accountable. Investigations led to Ashley Howard, who was found to have abandoned Khaleesi after just five months of ownership. During the search of Howard’s residence, authorities discovered three other dogs, two of which were in similarly poor health due to severe malnourishment.
Both Howard and her boyfriend, Charles Koon, were arrested on severe animal cruelty charges. Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno expressed his disgust at the suffering inflicted on these animals and praised the efforts of the Animal Cruelty Task Force for bringing the suspects to justice.
