A routine visit to a grandmother’s house led to a shocking discovery when a young girl spotted a severely emaciated stray dog wandering in the yard. The dog, later named Ivy, was in such horrific condition that she resembled a fragile skeleton, bearing the visible scars of six months of starvation.
Upon seeing a video of Ivy, local rescue volunteers quickly mobilized. However, by the time they arrived, the yard was empty. Panic set in as the team searched the area, finally locating Ivy hiding deep in a bush, trembling and in dire need of help.

Upon her rescue, Ivy exhibited signs of extreme malnutrition, coupled with a severe skin condition and infected sores. A veterinary examination revealed that she had tested positive for Babesiosis, a serious tick-borne disease, necessitating an emergency blood transfusion. Her initial reaction to food was one of disbelief, suggesting she had not encountered nourishing meals before.
Emergency Care and Early Recovery
Following her transfusion, Ivy received a soothing medicated bath for her sores. The first night was critical, with her caregivers hoping for a miracle. The next morning, signs of improvement emerged. Ivy began to show a little more confidence and gradually started eating, enjoying warm chicken dinners provided by her caretakers.
Remarkable Weight Gain
Over just seven days of intensive care, Ivy made astonishing progress, gaining over two kilograms. By the time she was ready to leave the clinic, her weight had increased to a healthier 7.65 kilograms, and her once-dull eyes sparkled with life. She transformed from a dog who once stared blankly at food to one who wagged her tail eagerly at the sight of treats.
A Journey to a New Life
With her recovery underway, Ivy boarded the rescue team’s “happy bus,” marking a significant turn in her life. She was on her way to the UK, where a loving godmother awaited her arrival. Today, Ivy is safe, warm, and cherished in her forever home, a testament to the power of care and compassion.
Her journey serves as a reminder that no animal should suffer in silence and that with the right support, healing is possible.
